The challenges of cutting eggs manually
Egg processors in the food industry know the challenge: manual cutting is time-consuming, produces inconsistent results and requires more staff than necessary. One employee cuts differently than another, and as production goes on precision drops. The result is eggs that don’t look uniform – a problem for end products such as meal salads, tapas and bread toppings where presentation matters.
In addition, manual cutting causes significant waste. Incorrectly cut eggs (too crooked, bruised or cracked) cannot be used in the end product. This direct production loss weighs on margins, especially at high volumes.
The availability of staff for repetitive work is a growing bottleneck in the food industry. Automation is therefore not only a matter of efficiency, but of business continuity.
How the Steven BV egg slicer works
The Steven BV egg slicer is designed for a controlled and hygienic cutting process. A bag of eggs is placed manually in the drip tray, cut open, and the eggs can drain for an adjustable amount of time. Once the eggs have drained sufficiently, they are tipped into the main hopper.
From the hopper, eggs are fed one by one automatically. Each fed egg falls into a holder, after which a pusher drives the egg through a cutting frame with constant force. This controlled process ensures uniform cut quality for every egg.
Choice of multiple cutting frames for maximum flexibility
The machine uses interchangeable cutting frames. Depending on the desired end shape (halves, horizontal or vertical slices, or wedges) the corresponding cutting frame is installed. Changing over to another cutting frame takes on average just 10 minutes, which makes the machine highly flexible for varying production demands.
Cut eggs separated or kept together
After cutting you can choose to place the eggs separately for fast downstream processing, or to keep the eggs together for better hygiene retention. This makes the machine adaptable to the specific requirements of the next step in the production line.
Standalone use, easy to integrate
The Steven BV egg slicer can be used fully standalone and operated by a single operator. At the same time, the machine is suitable for integration into existing production lines, such as a wrap line, sandwich line, salad line or tapas line.
